Among the most enduring of children’s tales – as well as the most beautifully written and illustrated – are those by the great Beatrix Potter, a writer who inspired future generations in children’s literature. Her characters give the reader a taste of pure nature, with humanized wild animals being the characters in her main series of 23 books. Beginning with The Tale of Peter Rabbit and continuing with delightful and amusing characters such as Squirrel Nutkin, Jemima Puddleduck and many more, these books remain a delight many years on and continue to sell in great numbers. Potter’s influence on children’s literature may indeed be the greatest of all.
